Performing live is something that can easily go wrong and when it does it tends to go really wrong. The following are examples of some of the craziest and most shocking events to ever happen at a concert.
1. Milli Vanillii, (Bristol, CT – July 21, 1989)
This duo had their career ruined when their vocal track began to skip at a concert. Yes it was discovered that the duo did not actually sing at their concerts or on their albums. This caused a public outcry and the group was eventually forced to return their Best New Artist Grammy.

2. L7 (Reading Festival, England – August 28,1992)
This all girl-grunge band was performing on stage to a rowdy crowd and the problem got worse when the band experienced technical difficulties. Donita Sparks, the lead singer guitar player for the band, got angry when the crowd began throwing mud at the stage and decided to throw something back. Her object of choice? Her own bloody tampon, showing that you should never mess with a female rocker when she is on her period.

3. Woodstock (Rome, NY – July 25, 1999)
Though the first Woodstock was all about peace and love, things were far from peaceful at Woodstock ’99. The 200,000 attendees suffered in the heat with little access to water, over priced food and non-functioning toilets. A number of fans went on a rampage, lighting fires, looting and there were even a number of rapes reported.

4. Akon (Poughkeepsie, NY – June 3, 2007)
Akon is one person that you do not want to mess with. Donita may have thrown her tampon but Akon threw something much worse. When a 15 year old fan threw something on stage, Akon asked the audience to point him out. When the crowd did so, he had security bring him onstage. Akon wasted no time in picking up the boy and tossing him into the crowd. Though Akon later claimed it was a publicity stunt he was later brought up on charges of harassment and child endangerment.

5. The Who (San Francisco, CA – 1973)
Keith Moon was the drummer for The Who and he was always known to be a bit of a party animal. Before this particular show he decided to see what it would be like to ingest horse tranquilizers. Needless to say the drummer passed out long before the concert was finished. Left without a drummer the band actually found an audience member who was able to play their music. Scott Halpin came on stage and lived out every fan’s dream, playing three songs with the band before Keith Moon was awake and ready to finish the show.

6. Jefferson Starship (Hamburg, Germany – 1978)
Grace Slick incited a riot in Germany when she took a rather unique approach to an upset stomach. The singer decided to down the contents of her entire mini bar before taking the stage for the group’s first concert in Germany. The drunk singer spent time fondling the guitarist, mimicking a Nazi goose-step, shouting “Who won the war?” and giving a Heil Hitler salute. Eventually she left the stage and began groping several female fans and even sticking her fingers up a man’s nose. The concert was supposed to be for German TV but could never be aired and Grace Slick left the band soon after.

7. Bob Dylan (1998 Grammy Awards)
Bob Dylan is perhaps one of the most professional men in the music business and this was tested during his performance at the 1998 Grammy Awards. Bob Dylan was performing “Love Sick” when artist Michael Portnoy, AKA Soy Bomb, jumped on stage. He was shirtless and had the words Soy Bomb painted on his chest. He began dancing spasmodically next to Dylan. Dylan did not miss a single beat and finished out the song in his usual somber tone.

8. Guns N Roses ( St. Louis, MI – July 2, 1991)
Axl Rose has been known for having a temper but at a St. Louis concert he was actually charged with inciting a riot. During the performance one fan began taking pictures, a definite no-no at a Guns N Roses concert. Axl pointed the fan out to security but they apparently did not react fast enough as Axl jumped off the stage and went after the fan himself. After punching the fan a few times, Axl returned to the stage where he vented his anger about the poor security and then walked off stage. The angry fans protested the early ending to the concert

9. Fiona Apple (New York, NY – April 30, 2000)
Fiona Apple is now credited with having the most infamous onstage meltdown after things did not go as planned at her New York concert. The sound quality was not up to par and Fiona was apparently already nervous about performing in New York. The technical difficulties were enough to break the girl as she collapsed into hysterics followed by a crying fit and then followed by plenty of yelling at journalists. The musician then walked offstage and did not return, even though she had only played a few songs prior to her meltdown.

10. GG Allin
Dates and places are not necessary as nearly any concert by this crazy musician is likely to be the craziest concert you have been to. This punk rocker is known to urinate and defecate onstage, roll around in feces on stage and even consume the feces. He is also known to perform naked, attack audience members and inflict self-injury. There is very little that he will not do on stage and it seems unlikely that any other musicians will ever top his antics, nor would they want to.
